St. Jude School To Celebrate Catholic Schools Week
ST. JUDE SCHOOL STUDENTS will celebrate Catholic Schools week January 26 through February 1. Special activities are planned for the week. Shown are Michael Grandzol, Lizzy Papciak, and Alex Gordon.

Catholic Schools Week will be celebrated January 26 through February 1, 2014. This year’s theme is Catholic Schools -Communities of Faith, Knowledge, and Service.

This theme was chosen to proclaim these priorities: Faith, the foundation of our lives; Knowledge, the high standards of learning that characterize the Catholic schools; and Service, putting our faith to work helping others.

In celebration of this theme, the following activities are scheduled:

Sunday, January 26 –School students will participate in the ministries at the 7:30 a. m., 9:00 a. m., 10:30 a. m., and noon Masses at St. Jude’s and the 9 a. m. Mass at St. Mary’s in Dorrance. Also Masses on Saturday, January 25 at 4:00 p. m. at St. Jude’s and 5:30 p. m. at St. Mary’s. Open House will be held for current and prospective families from 1 p. m. until 3 p. m. Those attending will be able to participate in a “Clue” game and win the prize of a $200 tuition credit.

Monday, January 27 Student Appreciation and Spirit Day –Special activities will be held in each classroom. Students may wear Spirit shirts and dress down for the occasion. The annual volleyball game between the faculty and the eighth grade will be held in the afternoon. An update on the progress of the Penny Power Program will be given. A Scholastic Book Fair will be held each day through Thursday. Exciting information about the Terra Nova Test scores will be announced followed by a treat for the students.

Tuesday, January 28 Family Day –All students and their families are invited to come and enjoy a pizza party beginning at 5:30 p. m. followed by a Talent Show beginning at 7 p. m. in the gym. Individual students or families may register for the Talent Show.

Wednesday, January 29

Volunteer Appreciation Day –Volunteers from the school community are invited to attend the 12:10 Mass with the students and will be honored at a tea in the Day Room following Mass. Students in all grades are invited to dress as saints, be a part of the procession and sit in a reserved area at Mass. Several grades will be performing for the volunteers at the tea.

Thursday, January 30 Service Day –Prior to the afternoon assembly, students will be invited to purchase tissue paper circles which will be used to form a heart shape. The proceeds will be donated to the missions. The amount of proceeds will be announced at the assembly. Deacon Gene Kovatch, Pastoral Outreach for St. Jude Parish, will speak about the role of the Social Action Committee in the community and will be presented with a check for $100 from the students to be donated to a charity in their name.

Friday, January 31-Teacher Appreciation Day –The faculty and staff will be honored at a breakfast provided by the Parent Teacher Guild. It will be an early dismissal day.
