When a girl joins the world of Girl Scouting, she makes a promise to help others and to make the world around her a better place.

In order to put that promise into action and work toward their Bronze Award, the highest honor a Girl Scout Junior can achieve, the girls of Mountain Top Girl Scout Troop 33320 are sponsoring a project they call “Baskets of Hope.” With the help of the community, the girls will be collecting household items to be placed in gift baskets. These baskets will then be gifted to the women of Ruth’s Place, an emergency shelter for homeless women in Luzerne County, upon successful attainment of their own housing.

The girls will be distributing boxes to local churches, grocery stores and other businesses for the collection of these household items. To help ensure the success of this program, Girl Scout Troop 33320 is asking for the community’s help in donating the needed items, such as mops, brooms, household cleaners, laundry baskets, laundry detergent, clothes hangers and ect. The collection will continue through April 1st, 2014. Please feel free to contact the troop’s leader, Tara Gallagher, at spareasquare@ymail.comfor more information.
