MMI Preparatory School students have continued their tradition of making sure children in the Hazleton area have a happy Christmas.
The students recently took part in a collection of toys, clothing and other items to provide Christmas presents for children who otherwise might not receive gifts. The drive was coordinated through Silent Santa, which distributes the gifts to children throughout Greater Hazleton. The all-volunteer organization is dedicated to filling Christmas wishes for children age infant through 14. Each year, Silent Santa fills wishes for hundreds of children.
MMI students were able to choose a paper “angel,” which listed a child’s name and desired gifts, from a Christmas tree. Students then purchased gifts for the child and brought them to the school.
On Dec. 20, the gifts were picked up by Silent Santa CEO and President Marylin Kotansky.
The drive was coordinated at MMI by junior Claire Sheen of Mountaintop who has organized the collection for several years.
