MMI Preparatory School, Freeland, recently held its annual Spanish II Piñata contest. The contest continues the Spanish tradition of constructing papier-mâché figures for children’s celebrations, birthdays, holidays and traditional festivals.
Under the leadership of Spanish teacher Dennis Clarke, MMI students spent several weeks designing, building and decorating their piñatas.
Sophomore Taylor Peluso, daughter of Chandra and Jim Sorenson, Hazleton, and Daniel Peluso, Hazleton, won first place for her piñata, “The Minion.” Sophomore Jay Solgama, son of Paresh and Arti Solgama, Mountaintop, won second place for his piñata of Steve from Minecraft.
