Mountain Top area residents have another choice for their primary medical care needs with the opening of Dr. Robert Dompkosky’s practice at his new office, Mountain Top Internal Medicine.
Dr. Dompkosky, D. O., offers comprehensive health care services for patients ages 13 and up. As a family doctor, Dr. Dompkosky will treat your aches and pains from colds and flu to stomach viruses to cuts and abrasions. The doctor also offers physicals for employment, school, sports and CDL requirements. In addition, Dr. Dompkosky treats chronic medical conditions such as COPD, diabetes, and high cholesterol.
For patients at Mountain Top Internal Medicine there is no need to make an additional appointment at a clinic for common medical tests: blood draws and EKG’s are done right at the new office located at 123 N. Mountain Blvd..
Dr. Dompkosky’s emphasis on patient care resurrects the concept of “the family doctor”, a physician who offers initial comprehensive treatment in his office before making patient referrals to specialists if not necessary.
“I specialize in internal medicine which focuses on primary care,” explains Dr. Dompkosky, “Internal Medicine is family medicine with more training in the intensity of the disease. In reality, a family doctor does what I do. As a family doctor, I treat the first, second and third line of care before referring a patient to a specialist. I offer a level of care to begin the process. If initial therapies fail then I ask a specialist to give advice and take it from there.”
Even though his office only opened last year, Dr. Dompkosky envisions future expansions at Mountain Top Internal Medicine that will make additional health services even more convenient for his patients right in the building that could include EMG and, possibly occupational medicine.
He is board-certified in Internal Medicine, earning his degree from Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, and his medical degree from the University of Osteopathic Medicine and Health Sciences in Des Moines, Iowa. Dr. Dompkosky completed internal residencies with the Scranton-Temple Residency Program, Scranton and the Wilkes-Barre VA Medical Center.
Dr. Dompkosky brings extensive experience to his Mountaintop practice, having provided primary and emergency care since 1999 at several regional institutions including the Mercy Hospital in Wilkes-Barre and the Wilkes-Barre VA Medical Center.
“I loved ER medicine. I actually worked at the VA Hospital by day and spent nights, weekends and holidays in the ER. I worked two full-time jobs for 14 years but I really love going to work; it doesn‘t seem like work,” remarks Dr. Dompkosky.
Dr. Dompkosky relates that during his medical career, he has had the opportunity to become professionally acquainted with Dr. Henry Smith of Mountaintop who is retiring. Dr. Dompkosky noted he has great respect for Dr. Smith and his practice in family medicine. Dr. Smith has been symbolic with the quintessential “family doctor” in Mountaintop for decades; a professional model Dr. Dompkosky hopes to emulate.
Dodie Bradshaw, who had been employed in Dr. Smith’s office, has joined the staff at Mountain Top Internal Medicine. She will be a familiar face for those patients who may looking for a new family physician.
