The hustle and bustle of preparing for the holidays often can over power the focus of the true meaning of the celebrations, a time to recognize all the good you have in your life. The students of the Joan Harris Centre have produced a show designed specifically for that purpose. The regional dance troupe invites you to join in the fun as they present Home for the Holidays, Saturday, December 7th and Sunday, December 8th at the E. L. Meyers High School Auditorium in Wilkes-Barre. These three fast paced shows are guaranteed to warm the hearts and sooth the souls of both young and old. In all, hundreds of local dancers from four counties of Northeastern Pennsylvania will participate in the weekend performances including a large contingent from the Mountain Top communities.
The show opens with a large production number in the style of the Radio City Christmas Spectacular and never loses pace as the songs progress from traditional favorites to contemporary renditions of the music that defines this most magical time of the year. Vocal and piano students from Ripple Effects Music School will join the Harris dancers on stage to create truly diverse performing arts production.
You can expect to whistle along to the music selected, as the show entices you to remember childhoods of old and all the memories they conjure up. Many will be moved by some of the more serious pieces and more will laugh during the always-present comic relief. Singer, actors, skilled dancers, beautiful sets and professionally designed lighting effects will all come to together in a show that offers something for everyone.
The Joan Harris Dancers will also be hosting a Toys for Tots Drop in
partnership with the United States Marine Corps. All attending are invited to bring with them a new, unwrapped toy to donate to this cause and help spread some joy to area children.
Tickets for Home for the Holidays are $11 in advance and $13 at the door and are available at the Joan Harris Centre’s campus in the Harris Conservatory in Luzerne. Curtain times for the Saturday performances are 1:00 and 5:00 PM and on Sunday the center will stage a matinee at 2:00 pm. For information call 287-7977 or visit www.joanharrisdancers.com.
