St. Mary’s Church Sets Blood Drive December 1

St. Mary’s of Dorrance is a welcoming church. The pastor of St. Mary’s is Reverend Joseph Evanko, and Reverend Gerald Shantillo, Assistant Pastor.

The weekend Mass schedule is Saturday at 5:30 p. m. and Sunday at 9 a. m. Family Envelopes will be sent home on December 8. There are no Religious Education classes Sunday, December 1. Questions: Mrs. Heller 570.379.2647.

St. Mary’s parish community will recite the Rosary on the first Saturday of the month at 5 pm in the Church. Questions? Call Michele Clark 570.868.0168.

Altar & Rosary Society Communion Sunday is December 15 at 9 am. The next general meeting is Monday, December 16 at 7pm. in the dining room. All ladies of the parish are invited to join the Altar & Rosary Society. Call Michele at 570.868.0169 with questions.

Saint Theresa’s Guild will meet Tuesday, December 3 at 6 pm in the social hall. The ladies will be setting up for the Children’s Christmas Party. All ladies are invited to join the guild. Please call Julia Vencak for more information 570.379.3034.

Father will be pulling the winning Thanksgiving Raffle ticket this Thursday, Thanksgiving day. Please return your tickets ASAP for an opportunity to win some extra cash! Last year’s winner took home over $1,300.

Advent begins next Sunday, December 1. This is a time of expectant waiting and preparation for the celebration of the Nativity of Jesus at Christmas. Advent means “Coming”.

The Wafer Dinner sponsored and hosted by Saint Theresa’s Guild will be held on Sunday, December 15, at 6pm in the social hall. Please bring a covered dish. Beverages and appetizers will be provided. There is no charge for this event. The ladies will have a raffle of hand made Christmas wreaths to help defray the cost. To ensure enough seats and set ups please RSVP to the parish office by December 1. All members of the parish are invited.

We will putting up five Christmas Trees this year. Four in the Church and one on the front porch. If you would like to donate a tree or trees in honor of, or in memory of a loved one please call the parish office.

We will be decorating the Church on Sunday, December 22 at 11 am. All are invited to come and help, especially students in need of service hours. Jobs for all ages and abilities. The more hands the lighter the load!

Our parish will be participating in the Angel Tree program to benefit local children. Watch for the tree with names of local children around Thanksgiving. To nominate children for this program please call the office with necessary information by Nov

In addition to the traditional gifts we have been asked to collect toiletries for local families. Soap, toothbrushes, toothpaste, dental floss, shampoo & conditioner, shaving cream, deodorant, body lotion, and any other personal hygiene items. Baskets will be under the tree.

The first meeting of our newly established Social Justice Program is Wednesday, December 4 at 7 pm in the meeting room. Social Service involves performing one or more of the corporal works of mercy; giving alms to the poor, feeding the hungry, clothing the naked, visiting the shut-ins etc. The team is recruiting people with ideas, suggestions, and a Christian vision to help those in need. All are invited!

It is time to start thinking about cold weather. The crochet group will again be making hats, scarves, and gloves for those in need. To help with this mission please attend a meeting, or call for more information. Learn to crochet Sundays at 6 pm and the third Tuesday of the month in the meeting room. The Pro-Life Center in Wilkes-Barre is in need of hand made white baby blankets to be given to babies for their Baptism. They may be dropped off at the Church or the Center.
