The confident Crestwood Comets shutout Pocono Mountain West last Friday evening with an exciting performance before the home crowd. The Comets streaked to a 42-0 win and a 6-1 record in this, their sixth consecutive victory.
The Crestwood running game was unstoppable as the Comets gained 341 yards on the ground. Frank Aigeldinger powered the Crestwood running game with 156 yards on 16 carries and quarterback Jay Popson followed close behind with 140 yards on 19 carries which included three scores.
The Comets scored 14 points in the opening half. Tanner Kahlau was the first Comet to cross the goal line on a 32-yard jaunt. Kahlau finished the evening with 41 yards on four carries.
Popson had his first TD of the game in the second quarter, scoring on a 3-yard run.
Crestwood picked up their scoring pace in the second half. The quarterback tacked on his second and third touchdowns of the game in the third quarter, scoring on runs of 43 and three yards.
The Comets kept on the pressure in the final stanza as Brandon Cole scored six in the first four seconds on a 1-yard run set up by a Matt Bobeck fumble recovery.
Workhorse Aigeldinger scored his TD on a 2-yard run to cap off the Comet scoring barrage.
Crestwood’s defense kept the Pocono Mountain West running backs in check, allowing only 109 yards rushing and a total of 126.
The Comets will travel to Dallas on Saturday, October 19 to take on the Mountaineers (0-6) in a WVC Class AAA contest.
Crestwood is presently tied with Coughlin in the WVC standings in their division. Crestood’s only loss of the season came against Berwick in the opening game of the 2013 season.
