The girls’ tennis team won the Class AAA regular season title on September 26 with a 5-0 victory over visiting Wyoming Valley West.

In singles, Kristi Bowman, Brittany Stanton and Grace Hao won their singles matches in straight sets.

The doubles teams of Jennie Snyder/Stacie Snyder and Stephanie Maichin/Christine Maichin won.

The win advances Crestwood (11-2) to the District 2 Class AAA team championships Oct. 11 at Kirby Park.

Crestwood edged host Dallas to win 3-2 on September 25. In singles, Bowman and Stanton each won their matches in straight sets. S. Maichin and C. Maichin won in doubles.


Crestwood captured the Wyoming Valley Conference 3A golf title at Fox Hill Country Club on September 27. The Comets edged the Mountaineers of Dallas for the title by five strokes. Crestwood ended the day with a score of 327.

The win advances Crestwood (11-0-1) to the District 2 Team Championships Oct. 4 at Fox Hill.

For the Comets, Bill Dombroski carded 35-40-75, followed by Joe Hurn with 41-38-79. Also contributing for Crestwood were Jason Dotze, 42-41-83, and Joe Grandinetti, 44-46-90.

Hurn qualified for the Class AAA District 2 Individual Golf Championships to be played Oct. 7 at the Elmhurst Country Club.

Hurn placed second in the Pre-District Tournament held September 23 at the Fox Hill Country Club. Hurn finished 38-38-76. The top qualifer was Ryan Georgetti of Dallas with 38-36-14.

Other Crestwood qualifers were Dombroski with 44-41-85 and Tyler Papura, 45-42-87.


The field hockey team continues to turn in stellar performances. The lady Comets shutout host Wallenpaupack, 8-1, in a game played September 23.

Marissa Surdy scored a hat trick for the winners while Hunter Pitman and Ashleigh Thomas each had two goals and an assist. Samantha Geroski also added a goal for Crestwood.

Crestwood had 27 shots on goal, overwhelming the Wallenpaupack team with only two. Keeper Dallas Kendra turned away one shot.

On September 23, Crestwood continued to roll with a 6-2 victory over host Lake-Lehman. The lady Comets recorded all their scores in the opening six minutes of the game.

Casey Cole scored two goals for Crestwood. Surdy chipped in with a goal and two assists.

Also adding to the Comets’ tally were Thomas, Morgan Kile, and Hannah Ackers.

Crestwood also defeated host Coughlin, 2-0. Surdy led the lady Comets with a goal and an assist. Teammate Maury Cronauer gave Crestwood another goal in the second half. Kendra had five saves in the win.

+++++ Crestwood shutout visiting Meyers, 3-0, in volleyball on September 25. Scores were 25-7, 25-10, 25-2.

In the win, Taryn Wojnar had 28 service points, seven kills and six aces to lead the lady Comets.

Emily Sipple added nine service points, eight assists, and six kills followed by Olivia Jankowski who chipped in 12 assists, seven service points and two aces. Nicole Jankowski finished with nine service points, five digs and three kills.

Crestwood won a tough five set match against Hazleton Area, 3-2, on September 27. Scores were 17-25, 25-11, 25-17, 20-25, 15-12.

Olivia Termini and Emily Sipple combined for 19 assists in the win.

Bryanna Hurn chipped in with 12 kills for the victory.

visiting Hazleton Area, 3-0 on September 26 with a balanced scoring effort, Casey Ritsick, Kyle Gegaris and Matt Wimpfheimer each recorded goals in the win.
