The Comets streaked to a 55-14 gridiron win last Friday evening over the Patriots of Pittston Area to improve their record to 2-1 in the Wyoming Valley Conference Class AAA standings.
Crestwood’s Frank Aigeldinger ground out 321 yards and scored four touchdowns to lead the offensive charge. The offensive line opened huge holes for the running game which amassed 485 yards on 40 Comet carries.
Crestwood lit up the score board first as Brandon Cole ran for a 33 yard touchdown. A 5-yard scoring run by Tanner Kahlau put the Comets up 14-0. With 22 seconds remaining in the opening stanza, an 8-yard run by Pittston’s Hassan Maxwell cut into the Crestwood lead to end the quarter at 14-6.
Aigeldinger hit the ground running,
scoring two of his four TDs in the second quarter. Aigeldinger found the end zone again in the third and fourth quarters.
In the fourth, Matt Bobeck scored from eight yards out. Jay Popson ending the Crestwood scoring onslaught with a 2-yard scoring run with 3:38 remaining in the game.
Pittston’s final score of the game was set up by a 92-yard kick return in the final quarter.
A stingy defensive Comet line held the Patriots to 18 yards on the ground on 28 rushes, and a total of 91 yards on the day.
Crestwood will take on Wallenpaupack on Friday, September 20 at 7 pm.
