Fatal Fire Takes Two Lives In Wright Township

A fast moving fire struck the Walden Park home of Thomas and Mary Ann Navin late Friday night. Mary Ann and her grandson 2 ½ year-old Jack Navin were overcome and died on the scene. Thomas was treated at a Lehigh Valley hospital for injuries sustained during the fire.

The fire is being investigated by Wright Township Police in association with Pennsylvania State Police Fire Marshal Shawn Hilbert.

Patrolman Michael Marshall was on duty when the call came in as a “working structure fire at 4 Walden Drive…When police arrived, flames were shooting out of the rear sunroom towards the roof. Also heavy smoke was pouring out the front door.”

Responding to the call were fire companies from Mountaintop, Freeland, Hanover and Dennison Township along with ambulance and medic units. The units were notified that there was entrapment upon arriving on the scene. Exterior views of the home show that the structure sustained massive fire damage with every window evidencing signs of excessive fire and smoke.

When safe to do so, Luzerne County acting coroner William Lisman removed the victims from the scene, tragically, the location of a planned family reunion the following day.

Officer Aaron Fromm of Wright Township said that the PSP Fire Marshal would be continuing the investigation early this week in conjunction with Wright Township.

On Saturday, Wright Township Fire Department posted a notice on its facebook page, “Crews had a rough night as many already know either via facebook or news there was a loss of 2 lives 1 so very young, 2 family pets as well as an injured brother and friend from a Department that came out to help. The incident is still under investigation with the State Police Fire Marshal so we wont be elaborating any further on “What Happened” so
