Fairview Township Hires Part Time Police Officer

During a brief meeting agenda on August 5, the Fairview Township Supervisors hired a part-time police officer.

Mark Hilpp was hired at a salary of $15.75 per hour, effective July 1. Hilpp is the director of the Public Safety Training Institute at Luzerne County Community College. He was recommended by Chief Joe Intelicato.

Under committee reports, Mountaintop Hose Co. No 1 President Dave Hourigan reported the fire department responded to 15 calls during the month of July. He also reported he will have a report at the next meeting on the success of the annual bazaar. Hourigan noted the bazaar did better than expected and there was no issue regarding age restrictions for the games.

The police department received 273 calls last month that included the following: 4 accidents, 30 traffic citations, 4 thefts, 1 disorderly conduct, 2 thefts, 3 domestics, 19 medical emergencies, 13 animal complaints and 1 dog bite.

Roadmaster Russ Marhold reported the road crew has been patching potholes and did lateral work on Dale Drive and Parkland which will, hopefully, be paved.

Zoning Officer Frank Tirico reported 14 permits were issued in July and $2621.79 was collected in fees.
