Wilkes University hosted 48 Luzerne County high school students who spent their summer preparing for college as part of the 46th annual Upward Bound Program. During the six-week residential experience, students received intensive academic preparation, explored potential careers, participated in personal development experiences and attended educational field trips.
Students participating in the program included Sarah Burke of Crestwood High School.
Several community businesses participated as mentors, including the Public Defenders Office, the Catholic Youth Center, the Wilkes-Barre Chamber of Business and Industry, the Osterhout Library, the Historical Society, the Peace and Justice Center and Educational Data Systems, Inc.
Upward Bound is a federally funded program sponsored by Wilkes University and assists eligible 10th, 11th and 12th grade students to prepare for success in post-secondary education.
