Graduation Liturgy

St. Jude School eighth grade graduation liturgy was recently held at the parish church. Rev. Joseph Evanko, Pastor, was the principal celebrant. Rev. Gerald Shantillo, Assistant pastor, concelebrated and provided the homily. Deacon Gene Kovatch, Pastoral Outreach at St. Jude’s Parish, delivered the Gospel reading. Mrs. Jeanne Rossi, Principal, presided over the awards ceremony. Diplomas and awards were conferred by Rev. Evanko, assisted by Mr. Lester Kempinski, St. Jude faculty. Refreshments were served and a video presentation was shown in the school cafeteria following the liturgy.

The following awards were presented at St. Jude School of the Holy Redeemer System -

St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Scholar Award is presented to those eighth grade students who achieved an exemplary score on the Diocese of Scranton’s Placement Test for entrance into ninth grade for the 2013 -2014 school year. The students who received this award were Adam Abad and Rachel Jones.

Holy Redeemer Scholar Award is presented to those students who earned the top scores on the placement test regardless of the elementary school that they attend. The Holy Redeemer Scholars and recipients of scholarships were Adam Abad, Gigi Alberti, Rachel Jones and Autumn Kaminski.

PTG Award for Academic Excellence, given to the student with the highest overall average was presented to Gigi Alberti.

PTG Award for Academic Excellence, given to the student with the second highest overall average was presented to Rachel Jones.

PTG Award for Academic Effort, given to the student who has shown considerable effort in his/her school work, was presented to Randie Kuhar.

Religion Award, sponsored by Mr. And Mrs. Robert Perkins, for two students who have excelled in the area of religion, was presented to Randie Kuhar and Josh Zapusek.

Joseph H. Schmidt VW Engine Award, given for the third highest average to be used toward continuing education in a Catholic school was presented to Julia Foust.

A scholarship award is donated by Mrs. Albina Czapowskyj, in memory of her son Lt. Andrew Czapowskyj. It is awarded to a well-rounded student with a sense of discovery who will be attending Holy Redeemer High School. The partial scholarship of $1000 was awarded to Adam Abad.

Attorney Gary F. Yenkowski Memorial Scholarship, a $500 award, is presented to two students who will attend Holy Redeemer High School, have the highest language arts and literature averages for grades six through eight, and have been active in service to the school and community. This was presented to Gigi Alberti and Rachel Jones.

Karen Lavan Excellence in Music Award is presented to a graduating student who has demonstrated high interest and aptitude in music through outstanding performance, attitude and participation in music class and other programs, and will continue
