Wright Township Ptlm. Kristen Paulshock filed charges against Karey
L. Rice of Freeland in May on six counts of Forgery; six counts of Identity
Theft; six counts of Theft by Unlawful Taking, and six counts of Receiving Stolen Property.
The counts arose from six separate incidents where funds were allegedly removed from bank accounts of the subject’s grandmother in the amount of
$582 in total.
The court documents show that checks were written in various amounts
to separate individuals without Ester Rice, the grandmother’s approval.
The Affidavit says, “The victimstated that she did not authorize thesetransactions.”
The defendant was picked upon a warrant and had been held inthe Luzerne County CorrectionalFacility.
A Preliminary Hearing was heldbefore Magisterial District JudgeRonald W. Swank on Wednesday, May 22nd. Rice agreed to Waive thecounts to the Luzerne County Courtof Common Pleas. The defendantwas released on $5,000 Bail and isscheduled for Formal Arraignmentin Luzerne County Court on Friday, August 23rd.
