Mountaintop will soon have a new Fine Wine and Good Spirits store. Agrand opening is planned for Tuesday May 14 at 11 a. m. at the store in the Weis Shopping Center. The former state store was located in the same plaza and closed abruptly on April 9, 2011. Mountaintop customers have been without a local retail liquor store for more than two years.
Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board spokesman Stacy Kriedeman said the new store will have 3800 square feet, a 75% increase in size from the previous 2400 square foot Mountaintop store. The sales floor has increased from 1558 to 2700 square feet of space and will feature 1600 wine codes, an increase of 300. “It is not a Premium Collection Store, but we will have a Chairman’s Select section which will offer about 40 different brands upscale brands. There will be a center table, where customers can go for help and advice from store personnel,” explains Kriedeman.
Premium stores are usually about 7500 to 14,000 square feet. There are no Premium rebranded stores in Luzerne County as yet, said Kreideman. Premium store placement is based on population, sales volume and by analyzing sales history.
Mountaintop was not chosen to host a Premium Collection Store, which includes a center table with tasting bar and spacious counters highlighting new products and featured selections. Educational materials will also not be available including a food pairing outline, party planning guide, calorie chart, and tips for responsible hosting and consumption. A Premium store also has a retail wine specialist on staff to conduct product tastings, provide information and recommendations and answer questions. Premium stores are open for extended daily
