Saturday, May 11

A Bird in the Hand: Songbird Mist Netting; 8:30 a. m. –12 p. m.

Seeing and hearing a beautiful songbird is a rite of spring. Do you ever wonder where these birds have been, where they’re going, or what they’re doing? Research about these birds is conducted by capturing them to identify, measure, and band them before releasing them unharmed back into the wild. When a banded bird is recaptured, scientists can gather a wealth of information that aids in songbird conservation. Join Dr. Jeffrey Stratford, an ornithologist from Wilkes University, as we celebrate International Migratory Bird Day with an exciting demonstration to learn about the miraculous lives of these tiny songbirds and their vital role in our environment. This program will be ENTIRELY OUTDOORS! Dress for the weather and meet park staff at Lake Frances. Free.

Saturday, May 25

Discover Lehigh Gorge Walk; 11 a. m.

Join us as we explore Lehigh Gorge State Park on an easy 1 hour walk where we’ll search for spring wildflowers and remnants of the area’s rich history. Wear sturdy shoes! This program is part of Luzerne County’s Keystone Active Zone program so be sure to bring your passport if you’re participating. It’s also part of the White Haven Area Community Library’s Grand Opening Celebration, so come on out and support this great event!
