The Marian Sutherland Kirby Library will celebrate this year’s National Library Week theme: Communities matter @ your library in a variety of ways to show our appreciation to our community.

During National Library Week, April 14-20, the library will celebrate by offering a week of amnesty for all overdue items that are returned. That’s right; no fines will be collected on any materials that are returned; no matter how long they are overdue! Begin Spring cleaning by looking under the beds, in the closets, in the car, and don’t forget to check the kid’s book bags! Amnesty does not apply however, to fines that have already accumulated on a patron record from previous returns.

All patrons who visit the library are eligible to fill out a raffle ticket to be entered in a drawing to win a gift certificate to an area merchant. The raffle tickets are free of charge, and the drawings will be held on Monday, April 22. In honor of this year’s National Library Week Chair, Caroline Kennedy, three copies of her latest book Poems to Learn by Heart will also be a part of the raffle drawing.

To further demonstrate our appreciation to our patrons the library will also have free DVD loans for the week and a half price book sale. There are many great books by popular authors for sale. Paperbacks make the perfect traveling companion as vacation season is fast approaching.

On Saturday, April 20 at 10:00 a. m. join Herb King for an Earth Day Nature Trail Walk on the library’s newly refurbished nature trail located at the end of the upper parking lot.

Herb King will guide a walk along the nature trail in honor of the 43rd annual Earth Day
