Andrew Alday To Perform Third Time At Carnegie Hall

Andrew A. Alday, 9th grader at MMI Preparatory School in Freeland, participated in the Carnegie Hall Piano Auditions at Marywood University on January 27, 2013. Of the 350 participating students, 78 were selected to perform at the Weill Institute in Carnegie Hall, 26 of whom are from Wilkes-Barre.

Upon adjudication, Andrew earned a qualifying score to perform in New York for the third time this March, 2013. His first performance in Carnegie Hall was April 2009, and the second time was April 2011. He is performing Nocturne Op. 9 No. 2 by Frederic Chopin.

Last October, Andrew participated in the PA Music Teachers Association 2012 Dorothy Sutton Festival. Perliminary auditions were held September 2012 at Marywood University. He passed the required theory test and earned a superior rating to qualify for the Performance Ensemble Festival, a state level showcase held October 2012 at Wilkes University.

A Mountaintop resident, Andrew is currently a student of Ms. Irina Manasyan, an Armenian teacher who mentored Andrew since 2007. A devoted and caring teacher, she continues to inspire him. Andrew plays the piano during the Teen mass at St Jude Church and is mentored by Mr. David Baloga, Director of Music and Worship at St. Jude Parish.
