Acting Rice Fire Dept. Treasurer Charged With Felony

Rice Township Police Sgt. Harry Ehret filed a Felony criminal complaint Thursday March 7 against Donald Leo Bly, 224 Cherry Wood Drive, Mountaintop, PA for a Theft by Deception-False Impression with District Magistrate 11-0-06 Ron Swank’s office.

The complaint states that Bly on or about various dates between June 12, 2012 and December 26, 2012 wrote out and signed eight checks in a total dollar amount of $4,395.43 from the checking accounts belonging to the Rice Township Volunteer Fire Department. The checks were written for the purpose of making purchases of equipment and supplies, but Bly failed to make the purchases and did not return the money or supporting receipts.

Ehret stated in the Affidavit of Probable Cause that on January 7, 2012 he received a complaint from Miller Stella from the Rice Township volunteer Fire Department relating to a possible theft of money from the fire department checking account. That there were multiple checks written out to Donald Bly, but no record of the purchased equipment. Stella told police that Bly has been the acting Fire Department treasurerand refuses to turn the checking account books back over to the fire department.

Ehret obtained bank account information from Citizens Bank and examined the account to conclude that multiple checks were written to Donald Bly between June and December 2012. Ehret met with Bly on January 9 requesting that Bly bring the accounts books as well as all of the financial books for the
