Evelyn Sipler Raitter, Mountain Top, died Dec. 9, 2017.
She was born in the East End section of Wilkes-Barre on March 2, 1933, daughter of the late Clyde and Sadie Rush Sipler.
Evelyn attended James M. Coughlin High School, Wilkes-Barre Business College and Wilkes University.
She retired in 1999 from Catholic Social Services of the Diocese of Scranton, where she was employed as the first fiscal director. In this position, she combined and computerized the accounting operations of all diocesan Catholic services offices.
Evelyn was a devout Catholic and a member of St. Jude’s Parish in Mountain Top. She was an active member of several organizations. She served many years as president of the Ladies of Charity, past president of the Diocesan Council of Catholic Women, past president of the Northeast Luzerne Region Council of Catholic Women, board member of Catholic Social Services, board member of Big Brothers/Big Sisters of the Bridge and board member of Church Women United of Wyoming Valley. She was also a proud member of the Pro-Life Wilkes-Barre office.
Evelyn had a wide variety of hobbies and interests and was a willing volunteer whenever help was needed. She loved to read, do handcrafts, travel and watch football games. Her deepest passion was reserved for her family and her grandchildren, who were the center of her life. She was predeceased by her husband, Francis Raitter.
She is survived by her beloved children, Deborah and Richard Ozark, Thornhurst; and Francis and Carol Raitter, Wilkes-Barre; sister, Earlene and husband, Cataldo, Wilkes-Barre; and brother, Clyde and wife, Anita, Mississippi. In addition, she is survived by many loving nephews and nieces, in-laws, stepsisters, friends and the “light of her life,” her grandchildren, Bob and wife, Laura Pisano, Kristie and Eddy Thompson, Richie Ozark, Stephen Raitter, Maria Pisano and Jimmy and wife, Gretchen Yeninas.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated in St. Jude’s Church, Mountain Top. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
McCune Funeral Service Inc., Mountain Top, assisted the family with the arrangements.
