Christmas Celebration Scheduled Dec. 2-3 At Eckley Miners Village

The annual Christmas celebration will be returning to Eckley Miners Village on December 2nd and 3rd, from noon to 4 p. m.

There will be musical entertainment Saturday, in the Catholic church, the Saras Sisters will return to perform Irish and traditional music. The Cellar Dwellarz, the Hazleton High School jazz band, will perform on Sunday afternoon. Harpist Chelsea Smar will provide a concert both Saturday and Sunday at 1 p. m. The MMI German Class will carol from noon -1 pm in English and German. Then, they will take to the street and carol about the village. Popular trumpeter, Frank Balon, will play Christmas music on the street from 12:30 -1:30 p, m, Saturday. Returning this year, John Tomsho will perform a concert on the antique organ in the Episcopal church from 1 -4 p. m.

There will be visits from the Belsnickle and the historic St. Nicholas both days, along with Victorian visitors arriving on horseback. All will have treats for the kiddies.

Cookies will be baking on the coal stove in the summer kitchen and a WWII Christmas will be in the Nicholas house across the street. Come see the model train displays, the American St. Nicholas of WWII and parents on the homefront.

Holiday crafts will be offered in the basement of the Episcopal church. In the Sharpe House, visitors will find a basket raffle, and can warm up and enjoy themselves in the Cookies and Cocoa Café. Mrs. Coxe and her secretary, Mr. Kunkle will visit and give oranges to children.

A Christkindlmart will also be part of the celebration. A traditional German outdoor Christmas Market— it will be held outside with crafts and food available for your Christmas shopping.

Admission to the event is $7. This year Shepherd House of Weatherly will benefit from Eckley’s traditional admission discount. Simply bring a clean, unexpired canned good, macaroni and cheese or other non-perishable item, paper goods, laundry or dish detergent, personal hygiene supplies, etc. You will receive a discount of $1 on your admission and help those in need -as Mrs. Coxe would want you to do!
