First Friday Creates Festive Atmosphere For Holidays

The holiday season is finally here and downtown Hazleton is gearing up for the December 1st First Friday. The 2nd Annual Wassailfest & Holiday Night Market will create a festive atmosphere for your holiday shopping, and also provide a variety of fun things to do for all members of your family—including a photo booth for your Christmas card photos, an Ugly Sweater Contest, and a Christmas Tree Market. There is also theatre, art exhibits, the City’s Tree Lighting Ceremony, and live music.

Wassailfest & Holiday Night Market-Get all your Christmas shopping done in downtown Hazleton while enjoying the tastes and sounds of the holiday season! More than 18 downtown businesses and organizations will serve as hosts to 20 guest vendors selling handmade items, art, photography, food items, books, and other unique gifts. Hosts will also be providing samples of holiday foods and drinks, such as wassail (hot mulled cider), hot cocoa, gluhwein, coquito, eggnog, and other favorites. Enjoy caroling and dancing by MPB Players and All That Dancin’ as they “Rock the Holidays” along the way.

Shopping is FREE!!! Have your shopping “passport” stamped at all locations and enter to win a $100 gift certificate for use at any participating location. Tickets for food and drink tastings are $10/person (online) or $12 at the door. A souvenir tasting mug will be provided to those who purchase the food/drink tasting ticket.

Christmas Tree Market-Looking for your Christmas Tree? Look no further than Center City Park where Boy Scout Pack #63 (Drums) will be selling freshly cut Christmas Trees (several varieties of Firs) from 5:00-8:00 PM. All trees are $25. City Tree Lighting Ceremony-Kick off the evening at City Hall with Mayor Cusat at the City’s Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony at 5:00 PM. This will be followed by the Hazleton Area High School Chorus singing Christmas carols. Santa will also make an appearance, and there will be free hot cocoa and cookies to all who stop by. Art Exhibit-From 5:00 PM-8:00 PM the Hazleton Art League (225 E. Broad St.) will be hosting an exhibit of artwork by Tabitha Sushko and Brandon Bicking. For more information call 570-454-0092.

Theatre-In the mood for theatre? Come see the Pennsylvania Theatre of Performing Arts’ (PTPA) live performance of Charles Dicken’s holiday classic “A Christmas Carol” at the J. J.
