Crestwood, the District 2 runner-up, lost to Twin Valley, 5-1, in the PIAA Class 2A field hockey playoff opener at Exeter Township High School on November 7. At halftime, Twin Valley took a 2-0 halftime lead. Crestwood scored with 18:11 to play but not before Twin Valley added another goal.
Twin Valley would score two more goals while holding Crestwood’s offense in check and eliminating the lady Comets from the tournament. The loss concludes the Lady Comets season with an 11-6 record.
Twin Valley (18-7) was scheduled to play District 11 champion Southern Lehigh in the PIAA quarterfinals last Saturday.
Crestwood, the WVC District 2 Class 3A soccer champions, lost to Hershey 1-0 in the opening round of the PIAA Class 3A tournament at Lake-Lehman on November 8. The loss was Crestwood’s only shut out during the 2017 season.
Junior Sean Murphy turned in an outstanding performance for the Comets as did his teammates in battling the Trojans from start to finish. Murphy’s aggressive style of play opened a scoring opportunity but was unable to get past the Hershey goalie.
Murphy was knocked out of the game after colliding head-on with Hershey keeper Alex Morgret. The Trojans were red carded as a result of the collision.
The game’s only score came in the first half by Hershey’s Brendan Kerr (Her) from Dante Hunter at 33:44.
Hershey’s tough defense shut down Crestwood’s offense despite the Comets having a 14 to 8 advantage in shots on goal.
The Crestwood keeper had three saves in the loss.
Crestwood’s season concluded with an overall record of 17-2.
The win advanced Hershey to quarterfinals against Northwestern Lehigh last Saturday.
