Crestwood dominated host Tunkhannock with a punishing ground game and precision air attack for a 42-18 victory last Friday evening. The win improves the Comets’ record to 4-3 in the Wyoming Valley Conference Division 4A.
Tunkhannock scored first with a 22-yard field goal by Billy Prebola but Crestwood was quick to respond with a high-octane ground game led by junior Pat Rother. Rother scored his first touchdown four minutes into the game, racing down the sideline for a 22-yard TD. Crestwood’s next score came on a 22-yard pass completion from quarterback Garrett Swank to senior Bandon Brozena. The Comets final score of the opening half came a with 2:34 remaining when Rother blocked a Tigers’ punt and returned it for his second score. Three successful PATs by Swank gave the Comets a comfortable 21-6 lead to start the second quarter.
Swank helped the Comets cause scoring on a 2-yard jaunt and converting the second point after to close the first half with his team up 28-6.
Tunkhannock managed to tack on 12 points in the third on runs by Logan Cywinski and Garrett Hopkins by both extra points failed.
Crestwood responded on 68-yard pass from Garrett to Kevin Klusewitz with 18 second remaining in the third to increase the Comets’ lead to 35-18.
The final score of the game came with 2:53 remaining with Rother scoring his third TD to close out the game with a 42-18 win.
Rother was the leading scorer for Crestwood with a game high 165 yards on 23 carries.
Swank completed eight of 13 passes for 156 yards that included two touchdowns.
Klusewitz caught three passes for 88 yards followed by Brandon Brozena with three catches for 51 yards.
