C. Peter Dougherty, 74, Mountain Top, died Aug. 24, 2017, in the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia.
He was born in Ashley on Oct. 22, 1942, a son of the late Dr. Joseph and Mary O’Toole Dougherty.
He was a graduate of St. Leo’s High School in Ashley and the Wilkes-Barre Business College. Peter also attended King’s College, Wilkes-Barre.
Peter was employed for many years as the comptroller by the Addy Asphalt Co., and he later served as a supervisor for the Luzerne County Community Development Authority for 20 years, prior to his retirement.
He also served on the Luzerne County Board of Elections.
Peter was a member of St. Jude’s Church, Mountain Top, where he served as a Eucharistic minister and an usher he was also a volunteer with the church’s annual bazaar. He was a fourth-degree member of the Bishop William J. Hafey Assembly of the Knights of Columbus and a member of the Mountain Top Knights of Columbus Council 6440. Peter also served as a state deputy for the Knights of Columbus and he served with the Association for Retarded Children for the Knights of Columbus.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Joseph P. Dougherty Jr. and James A. Dougherty, and by his sisters, Barbara Laska, Maureen Klinges and Kathryn Witkowski.
Peter is survived by his wife of 54 years, Catherine Trinisewski Dougherty; sons, Dr. C. Peter Dougherty and his wife, Maria Kennedy-Dougherty, Potomac, Md.; and Brian D. Dougherty Sr. and his companion, Brenda Stribaugh, Wilkes-Barre; grandchildren, Erin, Carly, Caitlin and Brian D. Doughery Jr.; brother and sister-in-law, Frank and Georgianne Trinisewski; and numerous nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held in St. Mary’s-Our Lady Help of Christians Church, Wapwallopen, Dorrance Twp.
