The annual Hobbie Volunteer Fire Company Carnival will be held on Aug. 4, 5, 6, 2017 at the carnival grounds located at 613 West County Road, Wapwallopen. As usual, the carnival offers great food, games, and special events.
The Hobbie Carnival is well-known for its food -most of it homemade or made locally. Homemade items include pigs-in-the blanket, ham & bean soup, chicken corn soup, fresh cut fries, and funnel cakes. Delicious Mannings Ice Cream is served at the carnival. In addition to a wide variety of scrumptious dishes of ice cream, shakes, root beer floats, and cider floats are also available. The following items round out the rest of the menu: cheese steaks, pork BBQs, chicken BBQs, cheeseburgers, hamburgers, hot dogs, pizza, sno cones, apple dumplings, pierogies, and deep-fried oreos.
Special events at the Hobbie carnival attract more than just local residents. Competitors from several neighboring states compete in our annual Garden Tractor Pull which will be held on Saturday, Aug. 5, beginning at 3p.m. This event goes well into the evening.
On Sunday, Aug. 6, three special events are planned. The Backyard Horseshoe Pitch -comprised of 64 two partner teams -begins at noon. A registration fee will be charged to participating teams. Cash prizes will be awarded. To register your team or for more information about rules and regulations, call Shane at 570-956-3989. Registration deadline is Saturday, Aug. 5, at 11 p. m.
The second special happening on Sunday is the Chinese Auction featuring NEW items only. It begins under the big tent at 1:00 PM with the drawing at 3 p. m. The Chinese Auction offers a variety of prizes.
Also, there is daily entertainment. On Friday, country music band, “Hillbilly D’Lux”, will be on stage at 7 p. m. The ever popular “Kartune” takes the stage at 7 p. m. on Saturday. Sunday afternoon, music will be provided by DJ, Carol Jean Davis. Finally, a hot young local band, “Tommy Guns Band” will perform on Sunday from 5 p. m. to 9 p. m.
The Hobbie Carnival offers a wide variety of entertainment forthe children. Three “ airblown” rideswill be on site. Face painting will beavailable. Finally there are a widevariety of games -many of themhomemade and unique to the Hobbiecarnival. A few of the games are: PetShop, Piggy Race, TP (toilet paper) Toss, Goldfish Toss, Gone Hunting, Fishing, Add and Win, Soda RingToss, and Dime Pitch.
Hours for the carnival are Friday: 6-11pm, Saturday: 5-11pm, andSunday.... this one is difficult... horseshoes start at noon, ChineseAuction at 1:00pm but the foodstands open between 1 and 2pm.
