ST. JUDE SCHOOL 8TH GRADE GRADUATES-St. Jude School eighth grade graduation liturgy was recently held at the parish church. Diplomas and awards were conferred by Rev. St. Jude School eighth grade graduation liturgy was recently held at the parish church. Rev. Jeffrey Tudgay, Assistant Pastor, was the principal celebrant. Rev. Joseph Evanko, Pastor, concelebrated. Deacon of the Word was Rev. Mr. Ryan Glenn. Deacon of the Eucharist was Deacon Eugene Kovatch, Pastoral Outreach at St. Jude’s Parish. Sr. Ellen Fischer, SCC, Principal, presided over the awards ceremony. Diplomas and awards were conferred by Rev. Tudgay, assisted by Mr. Lester Kempinski, St. Jude faculty. A reception was held and a video presentation was shown in the school cafeteria following the liturgy.

After diplomas were conferred, the following awards were presented -

The St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Scholar Award is presented to recognize eighth grade students who have attained high scores within their local school on the diocesan high school entrance exam, and are enrolled in one of four Catholic high schools for the 2017-2018 school year. The students who received this award were James Lavan and Lauren Patrick.

The Holy Redeemer Scholar

Award is presented to those students who earned the top scores on the placement test regardless of the elementary school that they attend. The Holy Redeemer Scholars and recipients of scholarships were Dominic Alberti, Anna Capaci, James Lavan, Lauren Patrick, Alex Rymar, and Sarah Stettler.

The PTG Award for Academic Excellence, given to the student with the highest overall average (a tie this year) was presented to Dominic Alberti and Tea Amerise..

The PTG Award for Academic Excellence, given to the student with the second highest overall average was presented to Anna Capaci.

The PTG Award for Academic Effort, given to the student who has shown considerable effort in his/ her school work, was presented to Aaliyeh Sayed.

The Religion Award, sponsored by Mr. And Mrs. Robert Perkins, for two students who have excelled in the area of religion, was presented to Anna Capaci and Sarah Stettler.

The Joseph H. Schmidt VW Engine Award is given for the third highest average to be used toward continuing education in a Catholic school. This award was presented to Lauren Patrick.

The Attorney Gary F. Yenkowski Memorial Scholarship, is presented to two students who will attend Holy Redeemer High School, have the highest language arts and literature averages for grades six through eight, and have been active in service to the school and community. This was presented to Tea Amerise and Dominic Alberti.

The Karen Lavan Excellence in Music Award is presented to a graduating student who has demonstrated high interest and aptitude in music through outstanding performance, attitude, and participation in music class and other programs, and will continue this interest through high school. This award was presented to Sarah Stettler.

The following award is given anonymously to recognize students who have participated in basketball and have shown continual effort in academic achievement. It was presented to Sarah Stettler for girls basketball and Colin Wills for boys basketball.

The following students were awarded a certificate for Perfect Attendance –Tea Amerise, Raymond Sabatini, and Anthony Strish..
