Mountaintop Seniors Receive Awards At Wyoming Sem Commencement

Four Mountaintop residents received awards during the Wyoming Seminary commencement excercises.

Paige Allen received the Harry W. and Emma R. Ruggles Award for the Outstanding Graduate during the school’s 173rd Commencement, in recognition of her scholarship, character and contributions to school life. She also received the Leroy Bugbee Prize in recognition of her accomplishments in the study of history and social studies, and the Michael Ellis Drama Prize for outstanding achievement in drama, during the ceremony. Prior to Commencement she received the President’s Educational Excellence Award, the Spencer Bible Prize, the Charles L. March Opinator Award and the March Poetry Prize.

A Levi Sprague Fellow, she has been inducted into the Cum Laude Society, the academic honor society for independent schools, and was named to the Dean’s List with High Honors for the 2016-17 spring term. She also is a National Merit Scholarship recipient.

The daughter of David and Lauren Allen, she was among 131 students who completed their Sem educations on May 28.

John Kehl received the Willis L. Dean Citizenship Prize. The award is given to a senior girl and senior boy who approach most closely the ideal Wyoming Seminary graduate in scholastic achievement, good citizenship and participation in extracurricular activities. Elizabeth Abraham of Kingston also received the award.

Kehl also received the Quay Adams Award, in recognition of his noteworthy academic record, athletic achievement, character and influence for good leadership in school activities. Prior to Commencement he received the President’s Educational Excellence Award. He previously was inducted into the Cum Laude Society and was named to the Dean’s List with High Honors for the spring term.

He is the son of John and Donna Kehl.

Lauren Anderson received the Theodore S. Abbot Language Cup, in recognition of her accomplishments in the study of international language.

Anderson also was inducted into the Cum Laude Society, the national academic honor society for college preparatory schools, during the ceremony. Prior to Commencement she received the Brooks Christian Citizenship Award. She has been named to the Dean’s List with High Honors for the 2016-17 spring term.

She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Anderson.

Christian Rickrode received the Mabel and Sterling Wandell Scholarship Award. The award is given in recognition of the students’ academic achievements and school leadership. The students were among 131 students who completed their Sem educations on May 28.

Rickrode was named to the Cum Laude Society, the national academic honor society for college preparatory schools. He also was named to the Dean’s List with High Honors for the spring term.
