Holy Redeemer Students First In State Speech And Debate Qualifying Tourney
HOLY REDEEMER STUDENTS -Holy Redeemer speech and debate students competed in the Pennsylvania High School Speech League State Championship at Bloomsburg University recently. Holy Redeemer High School’s Speech and Debate Team sent 12 students to the Pennsylvania High School Speech League State Championship at Bloomsburg University recently, with six earning places in the elimination rounds.

Students qualified for the tournament by competing in the District 8 qualifying tournament and placing in the top two in their category, with third place finishers named as alternates. Students from 15 schools throughout northeastern Pennsylvania competed in 12 events to select participants for the PHSSL state championship tournament. Over 600 students from around the state competed at Bloomsburg University.

At the state championship tournament Kyra Krzywicki placed sixth in radio announcing, and Maria Strish placed sixth in commentary. Maria also placed first in the District competition to qualify.

Nial Vendor placed eighth in commentary after placing second in districts. George Strish placed 11th in extemporaneous speaking, and Scott Williams placed 12th. Scott won first in districts and George placed second. Lindsey Scorey placed 13th in informative speaking after placing first in districts.

Other qualifiers/alternates for Holy Redeemer included Thalia Charles in Lincoln-Douglas debate, Sarah Liskowicz and Maddie Lewis in dramatic duo, Emily Blaum in Lincoln-Douglas debate, Abbey Zim in persuasive speaking, Blaise Rowlands in prose interpretation, and Sean Lickers in humorous interpretation.
