On Tuesdays during Lent from 7 p. m. until 8:15 p. m., high school students are invited to pray and reflect and learn from Jesus. Sessions will continue March 14, 21, 28, April 4 and 11. Figure out what to fast from –fear, excuses, worry, the need to please everyone. Registration is not required. Come to all the sessions or just a few. Invite a friend. Meetings will be in the music room of the school.
During Lent, the following fast and abstinence regulations are to be observed: Good Friday is a day of fast and abstinence. Fridays during Lent are days of abstinence. All Catholics who have reached their 14th birthday are to abstain from eating meat on all Fridays during Lent. All Catholics over 18 years of age to the beginning of their 60th year are bound to the obligation of fasting. Those bound by this rule may take only one full meal and two smaller meals unless dispensed or excused.
St. Jude Family Days will be held Sunday, March 19 from 11:30 a. m. until 12:30 p. m. and Monday, March 20 from 5:30 p. m. until 6:30 p. m. Enjoy family Lenten crafts and activities. Parishioners are invited to practice almsgiving during Lent by placing loose change in the containers by the doors of the church. Donations will help charitable work at the St. Vincent de Paul Soup Kitchen in Wilkes-Barre.
The high school youth group will visit with families and individuals with special needs at St. Joseph’s Center on Tuesday, March 21. They will meet at St. Jude’s at 4:30 p. m., serve at St. Joseph’s from 5:30 until 7 p. m., and be back at St. Jude’s by 7:45 p. m. Registration is required by texting Mrs. U at 570-262-3015.
A St. Jude Family Skate Night at Skate-a-way in Wilkes-Barre will be held Thursday, March 23 from 6 p. m. until 8:30 p. m. Tickets may be purchased by contacting Carrie Grandzol at email@example.com. Pre-sale tickets are $5 plus the cost of skate rental. Tickets at the door are $7 plus the cost of skate rental.
Young adults are invited to Thirsty Thursdays at Norm’s Pizza in Wilkes-Barre. Fr. Chase Pepper from King’s College will lead a discussion on Life Giving Relationships. The Diocese of Scranton Third Annual Catholic Men’s Conference will be held Saturday, May 6 from 8 a. m. until 3 p. m. in the King’s College Scandlon Gym at 149 N. Main Street in Wilkes-Barre. The conference theme is “Be a Man: Mary’s Call to Battle,” and will include Mass, Reconciliation, music, popular Catholic vendors, lunch, and time for reflection.
