Jack Rolin Shafer Sr., 68, Slocum Township, died at his home on Monday, Feb. 27, 2017.

Born in Wilkes-Barre, he was the son of the late Merle Shafer Sr. and the former Margaret Richards.

Jack is survived by his devoted and loving wife of 49 years, Bonnie; son, Jack Shafer Jr., daughter-in-law, Bridget, and two grandsons, Bradley and Riley Shafer; daughter, Lisa, and her partner, Doug Hasbrouck; siblings, Brenda Austin, Suzanne Veniskey and Harold Shafer; stepmother, Helyn Shafer; several nieces and nephews; many cousins and friends; and loyal grandpets, Fedora and Chloe.

Jack retired from Sapa in Mountain Top after 38 years of service.

His part-time passion was coaching Little League baseball, Babe Ruth baseball and Crestwood women’s soccer.

He was a member of the 365th Engineer Division of the National Guard.

He loved watching his grandsons, Bradley and Riley, play sports. They were the apple of his eye. For fun he enjoyed trips with Bonnie and family to Las Vegas and Spring Lake, N. J., as well as bird-watching with Fedora.

Jack was preceded in death, in addition to his parents, by his grandparents, Harold and Esther Shafer, and brother, Merle Shafer Jr.

Arrangements were by McCune Funeral Home, 80 S. Mountain Blvd., Mountain Top.
