Crestwood (15-7) was scheduled to play Pittston Area (6-16) in the quarterfinals of the District 2 Class 5A basketball tournament on Tuesday, February 21. The winner of that game will play on Friday, February 24 in the semifinals against the winner of the North Pocono/West Scranton game.
In competition last week, the Crestwood boys fell to Wyoming Valley West in a WVC game by a score of 55-45.
Noah Jackson led the Comets’ in scoring with 11 points followed by Kyle Gegaris who chipped in eight while Kevin Klusewitz added seven.
Also putting points on the board were Lance Blass with five, Kyle Richards, four, Mike Kozelsky and Evan Knapp each chipped in with three, and Mike Ayala scored a bucket.
In a Wyoming Valley Conference Division I makeup game on February 17, the Crestwood girls lost a close one, 61-59 to Hazleton Area.
Julia Makowski powered the Crestwood scoring effort with 23 points. Sarah Richards and Sarah Hopkins followed with 13 and 12 points respectively. Kate Shipas tossed in three and Riley Morgan added two in the loss.
Crestwood girls came up short against Wyoming Valley West in a key WVC contest on February. The Lady Comets lost by a score of 51-42. The win earned Wyoming Valley West the Wyoming Valley Conference Division I basketball championship.
Julia Makowski was the high scorer for Crestwood with 17 points. In a total team effort, Kate Snipas and Sarah Hopkins each scored eight points, Ally Muse, seven, Sarah Hopkins, six, and Andrea Shipton, four.
On February 15, Crestwood breezed past Coughlin, 54-15.
Snipas led the Lady Comets with 10 points, followed by Goanna Uhl with eight.
In a total team scoring effort, several Crestwood players added points in the victory: Ally Muse tossed in seven, Julia Makowski, seven, Andrea Shipton, five, and Kristen Andrews, four. Riley Morgan and Sarah Richards scored three points apiece.
The Lady Comets will compete in the District 2 Class 5A quarterfinals February 22 against Wallenpaupack.
