On Sunday, February 5, members of our Cub Scout Pack will join in worship with us. Lord Robert Baden-Powell (1857-1941) was a British Army lieutenant-general. He enjoyed hiking and camping so much that he wrote the book Aids to Scouting for soldiers. Teachers and youth leaders started using it to instruct young boys and so Lord Baden-Powel rewrote it as Scouting for Boys. Soon there were Boy Scout groups all over England. Shortly after that, the Scouting movement came to America. February 8, 1910, is the official beginning of the Boy Scouts in America. Given the Boy Scouts values, many churches sponsored packs and, as Emmanuel UCC and other area churches are evidence, we still sponsor them today.
Scout Sunday is celebrated the Sunday before February 8 each year. We welcome you to come join us as we celebrate Scouting and recognize the efforts of these fine young people. After our worship service, the Scouts will host a coffee hour. Please plan to stay and share some time with them.
There is a box in the bell tower for your Valentines for Vets. These Valentines are appreciated very much by those who are residents at the Wilkes-Barre VA Medical Center. The last date to deposit your Valentines will be February 5. Remember those who served.
Sunday mornings at 9:15 am is Sunday School for ages 3 through 6th grade. We have a great program based on our Hands On Bibles. We’ll have fun making crafts, playing games, and solving puzzles which help us understand the stories in our Hands On Bibles.
Teen Talk is for anyone in 7th grade and above. We meet on Sunday mornings at 9:15 am to talk about God and Jesus, how our lives are influenced by them and how we can be an influence to others around us. There are so many things that try to manipulate us away from God. Come to Teen Talk and find other teens who want to make their faith stronger and be better at dealing with ideas and things that pull us away from being Christians. Sunday worship service is at
10:30 am and will be led by Pastor Louis Aita. We welcome visitors and friends to join us for worship every Sunday.
