While at Crestwood H. S., John was a 6-letter winner in football and baseball and was a preferred football walk on at Wake Forest University.
John was an articulate, personable and extremely bright young man whose greatest academic strengths were in the sciences and technology. He was an avid reader. He was very engaging and touched many people in all walks of life. He had a heart of gold and he was a very tender and sensitive human being who had to live with severe illnesses over the last 15 years of his life, including paralysis of his right leg which prevented him from doing many athletic endeavors in which he was quite good including skiing, tennis and pick-up games of softball, basketball and just horsing around. He was able to continue working out in the gym.
Upon learning of his death, numerous people from the places where he lived over the last 15 years came forward and said how John had touched their lives and helped them through the toughest times battling numerous problems.
John worked primarily in the banking and utility industries in York, Pittsburgh, PA, and in New Haven, CT. John also worked in legal offices in PA and Maryland.
John loved animals, especially his Portuguese Water Dogs, most recently Duce and Bonnie. Whenever he would come home to stay for a brief period, Duce and he were inseparable. Duce crossed over the Rainbow Bridge on December 1, and we know that John is now running like he did as a young athlete with his best friend, Duce.

Gonos, a Naval Aviator stationed in Norfolk, VA, Jim’s special friend, Doctor Janelle Tryjankowski of Boston, Mass., his sister, Attorney Katherine Anne Gonos and her husband, Attorney Steven Adkins and their 2 year-old daughter Elle Jane Adkins of Valdosta, Georgia.
