St. Jude’s CelebratingAdvent By Candlelight

Women of the parish are invited to begin Advent with an evening of fellowship, spiritual reflection, desserts, and beautifully decorated table settings on Friday, December 9 at 6:30 p. m. in the school cafeteria. Sara Michaels from Elizabeth Ann Seton in Swoyersville will be the guest speaker. She has a powerful message about perseverance and spiritual strength. Parishioners are invited to join the Social Action Committee at St. Vincent de Paul Soup Kitchen in Wilkes-Barre on Thursday, December 1 from 9 a. m. until 1 p. m. Carpools leave from the Parish Office at 8:45 a. m. Call Jody or Artie at 570-710-0137.

A pilgrimage to Washington, D. C. for high school students and young adults will be led by Fr. Jeff Tudgay. Details are as follows: Thursday, January 26 -leave St. Jude’s at 1 p. m. for the Life is Very Good Rally and Evening Prayer; Friday, January 27 -Youth Rally and Mass for Life -March for Life; Saturday, January 28 -Sightseeing in Washington, D. C. and tour, and Mass at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception. Return to St. Jude’s around 10 p. m.

The cost is $220 per person which includes bus transportation to DC, hotel accommodations for two nights, tickets for the Rally and all meals. It excludes a bag lunch for the bus ride down to DC on Thursday and lunch on Saturday. Registration and $50 non-refundable deposit are due December 1. The Parent Faith Group will meet Dec. 4 in the school library at 10:10 a. m. Parents are invited to take time out of the busy holiday season and reflect on what Advent is all about.

The parish will have confessions each Monday during Advent, December 5, 12, and 19 from 7 p. m. until 8 p. m.

Children ages four through high school are needed to fill the parts of the St. Jude Parish Christmas Pageant. The pageant will be held Sunday, December 18 at 4 p. m. and will coincide with the Lessons and Carols Concert. Parts will be nonspeaking. Students will act out the Scripture passages to add to this prayer-filled event. The 10th Annual Lessons and Carols Concert will be held Sunday, December 18 at 4:30 p. m. in the church. The concert tells the story of salvation history in Christ and features the Music Ministry and Christmas Pageant, guest instrumentalists, and a light reception to follow in the school cafeteria. All parishioners are invited to a special afternoon of Scripture and song.

Weekday Masses at St. Jude’s are Monday through Friday at 7 a. m. and Wednesday at 12:10 p. m. Weekday Masses at St. Mary’s are Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday at 8 a. m. Saturday Vigil Masses are 4 p. m. at St. Jude’s and 5:30 p. m. at St. Mary’s. Sunday Masses are 7:30 a. m., 9 a. m., 10:30 a. m. and noon at St. Jude’s and 9 a. m. at St. Mary’s.
