Crestwood was defeated in their final regular game of the 2016 football season by host Hazleton Area last Friday evening, losing 38-3.
The Comets scored their only points of the game on a successful a 24-yard field goal by kicker Alex DeSpirito on their opening drive.
Hazleton matched that field goal with one of their own, along with scoring a touchdown on a 3-yard run to end the opening quarter up 10-3. Hazleton tacked on two more scores in the second quarter to take a commanding 31-3 lead to end the half. One more second half TD put the game out of reaching for the struggling Comets.
On the day, senior running back Lance Blass rushed for 114 yards on 17 carries for Crestwood.
Crestwood (3-7) will visit North Pocono (7-3) on Friday, November 4 in the District 2 Class 4A quarterfinals.
Several Crestwood players have been selected to play in the Wyoming Valley Conference UNICO A;;-Star Football Game to be played on Saturday, November 26 at 1 p. m. at Wyoming Area. Crestwood players Jake Barney, Lance Blass, Kyle Frisbie, Jeremy Hannen, Ben Kreuzer, Garrett McAfee, Kyle Richards, Tony Simko, Nate Smith and Christian Zero will play on the Miners roster in the game.
