All Souls Day MassAt St. Jude’s

Parishioners are invited to join in prayer during a special liturgy to honor all friends and relatives who have passed away. The liturgy will be on Wednesday, November 2, All Soul’s Day, at 7 p. m. in St. Jude’s Church. Light refreshments will be served in the school cafeteria following the Mass.

Novena Mass will be celebrated at St. Jude’s at 7 p. m. on Saints Simon and Jude Feast Day, Friday, October 28. All parishioners are welcome.

A VIRTUS training session is scheduled on Sunday, October 30 at Holy Family Academy, 1700 West 22nd Street in Hazleton beginning at 4:30 p. m. Call the school at 570-455-9431 to register. VIRTUS: Protecting God’s Children for Adults Program is a mandatory 3-hour training session for all employees and adult volunteers (18+) who work with or have direct contact or routine interaction with children in the Diocese of Scranton. This training focuses on ways to make and maintain a safe environment for all children. This class is mandatory for all religious education catechists, aides and substitutes, as well as volunteers and chaperones.

Effective Wednesday, November 2, all live plants will be removed at Calvary Cemetery by the cemetery personnel if not claimed by lot holders. Vigil lights are permitted on the Eve of All Souls Day and ten days thereafter only, at which point, they will be removed by cemetery personnel. If your loved one has a governmental flag or flag holder on their final resting place, to avoid any damages over the winter, please take it home after Veterans Day and return it in May 2017 for Memorial Day.

Parishioners are invited to join the Social Action Committee at St. Vincent de Paul Soup Kitchen in Wilkes-Barre on Thursday, November 3 from 9 a. m. until 1 p. m. Carpools leave from the Parish Office at 8:45 a. m. Call Jody or Artie at 570-710-0137.

St. Mary’s in Dorrance will hold their annual Roast Beef Dinner on Sunday, November 5 from 3 p. m. until 7 p. m. The meal, served family style, includes roast beef, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, corn, cabbage slaw, pickled red beets, dinner roll, and beverage. The cost is $9 for adults, $4 for children ages 6 -11, no charge for age 5 and under. Take out is available from 3 p. m. until 5 p. m. For more information, call the church office at 570-868-5855.

Classes will begin soon for the “I Live My Faith” medal for sixth grade students, “Mary, the First Disciple” medal for seventh through ninth grade students, and “Spirit Alive” medal for tenth through twelfth grade students. These medals are for both boys and girls. Call the Parish Office with your name, grade, and phone number if interested.

Weekday Masses at St. Jude’s are Monday through Friday at 7 a. m. and Wednesday at 12:10 p. m. Weekday Masses at St. Mary’s are Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday at 8 a. m. Saturday Vigil Masses are 4 p. m. at St. Jude’s and 5:30 p. m. at St. Mary’s. Sunday Masses are 7:30 a. m., 9 a. m., 10:30 a. m. and noon at St. Jude’s and 9 a. m. at St. Mary’s.
