Young Adult Volunteers NeededAt St. Jude’s

The Young Family Life and religious education programs are looking for seventh through twelfth grade students to volunteer and help others. Help is needed in the areas of Kids Club -meetings once a month, help younger students with service projects; Halloween Dance -help with games and pumpkin painting; Parents’ Night Out -work with children on Christmas themed activities and serve food during a movie; and religious education aides -assist with grades one to six classes. The Caring Kids Club is coming back. This St. Jude Parish elementary service club will be back in session on Wednesday, October 5 at 4 p. m. in the school. Students in grades 2 through 6 will meet the first Wednesday of the month in the school cafeteria from 4 p. m. until 5:30 p. m. Students are invited to come for snacks, games, and service. A VIRTUS training session is scheduled on Sunday, October 9 at St. Nicholas Parish in Wilkes-Barre from 2 p. m. until 5 p. m. Call Heather at 570-207-2216, ext 1089 to register. VIRTUS: Protecting God’s Children for Adults Program is a mandatory 3-hour training session for all employees and adult volunteers (18+) who work with or have direct contact or routine interaction with children in the Diocese of Scranton. This training focuses on ways to make and maintain a safe environment for all children. This class is mandatory for all religious education catechists, aides and substitutes, as well as volunteers and chaperones.

The Parish Office will be closed on Monday, October 10 in observance of Columbus Day. The office will reopen Tuesday, October 11 at 9 a. m.

The Little Lambs program is back. This is for our littlest parishioners from birth to school age and moms. Preschool story and play group are being held on Mondays and Wednesdays from 9:30 a. m. until 10:30 a. m. If interested in joining, contact Carrie Grandzol at

All parishioners are invited to a Vendor Bingo on Sunday, October 16 in the school cafeteria sponsored by the PJAS students at St. Jude School. Doors open at 1 p. m. Games start at 2 p. m. Tickets are $20 in advance, $25 at the door. Call 570-474-5803.

The children’s choir will practice on Tuesdays in the church from 4:30 p. m. until 5:15 p. m. All children in third through seventh grade are welcome to attend.

Religious education classes for seventh grade students begin Sunday, October 16 or Monday, October 17. Students will not be able to start classes until they are registered. Questions about these two classes may be directed to Pam Urbanski at the Parish Office.

Weekday Masses at St. Jude’s are Monday through Friday at 7 a. m. and Wednesday at 12:10 p. m. Weekday Masses at St. Mary’s are Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday at 8 a. m. Saturday Vigil Masses are 4 p. m. at St. Jude’s and 5:30 p. m. at St. Mary’s. Sunday Masses are 7:30 a. m., 9 a. m., 10:30 a. m. and noon at St. Jude’s and 9 a. m. at St. Mary’s.
