Stephen P. Skapura

Stephen P. Skapura, 89, Dorrance Township, died Sept. 14, 2016, at Smith Health Care, Mountain Top.

Born July 23, 1927, in Wilkes-Barre, he was the son of the late John and Mary Lelia Skapura.

Steve was a graduate of Nescopeck High School. He served in the U. S. Navy during World War II and also served in the U. S. Army during the Korean conflict.

He was a member of St. Mary’s Our Lady Help of Christians Church, Dorrance Township.

Steve was employed by Berwick Knitting Mills as a sewing machine mechanic before retiring.

Steve had a wonderful mechanical ability and could repair just about anything that was handed to him. He spent countless hours in his woodworking shop creating many beautiful pieces of furniture upon request, which will be treasured for years to come.

He was preceded in death, in addition to his parents, by his brothers, John, Andrew and Joseph, and his sisters, Mary Marcin and Anna Wanyo.

Steve is survived by his loving wife, Emma Sakalosh Skapura; daughter, Cheryl Thomas and her husband, Bill; his grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and by his dogs, Duke and Roxy.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated in St. Mary’s Our Lady Help of Christians Church, Dorrance Township.

Interment followed in the parish cemetery.

Arrangements were by McCune Funeral Home, Mountain Top.
