Bette M. Dodson, White Haven, died July 30, 2016, in Fritzingertown Senior Living Community, Drums.
Born in Wilkes-Barre, she was the daughter of the late W. Goledge and Gertrude McCarty Hilburt and was a graduate of Coughlin High School. Bette was a residential aide at White Haven Center and a member of the United to Serve Group of the center.
She was a proud member of White Haven Presbyterian Church, the first woman to become an ordained elder of the church, and a member of the Terrian Club. She volunteered at the White Haven Food Pantry and was a member of the Lehigh Chapter of Eastern Star and former Lutheran Quilters. Bette was an avid reader. She read her Bible daily. She loved quilting and made many hand-sewn quilts for family members. Bette was a lifelong Boston Red Sox fan; she was honored at a Red Sox game in Fenway Park in Boston on her 90th birthday. Her summers were spent with friends and family at the New Jersey shore at Ocean View Campground. Bette loved traveling, visiting Hawaii, Egypt, cross-country United States, Canada, the Bahamas, Alaska, Switzerland, Germany, Majorca and Greece.
She was preceded in death, in addition to her parents, by husband, Burton Dodson; brothers, Edward and Robert Hilburt and granddaughter, Emily Ann Dodson.
Bette is survived by son, Bruce B. Dodson and his wife, Jane, of Mountain Top; daughter, Gayle B. Lukas and her husband, Daniel, of Freeland; brother, John J. Hilburt, of Willow Grove; grandsons, Drew and Mark Dodson; and her dog, Suzie.
Funeral service was held at the White Haven Presbyterian Church, White Haven. Arrangements were by Lehman Family Funeral Service Inc., White Haven.
The family has requested that donations may be made in memory of Bette M. Dodson to the White Haven Presbyterian Church.
