In anticipation of the annual picnic, parishioners are asked to mark their calendars for the clean up in the grove on Sunday, August 6 beginning at 1 p. m. Many hands are needed to help with light clean up in order to be ready for the big weekend. Volunteers are asked to bring work gloves, rakes, leaf blowers, brooms, rags and any cleaning supplies. This is a great project for scouts, families, or anyone willing to pitch in. All help will be greatly appreciated!
Donations are needed for the theme baskets, baked goods, and wine and spirits booth. All donations may be dropped off at the Parish Office.
A Mass of Remembrance for victims of violent or tragic death will be held Thursday, July 14 at 7 p. m. in Scranton. This is the annual Mass celebrated by the Diocese of Scranton for the families and friends of those who have died tragically especially murder, suicide, and accident. The Mass will be in St. Peter’s Cathedral, 315 Wyoming Avenue in Scranton. All persons who have lost a loved one in this manner are invited to this liturgy. Names of deceased loved ones can be registered by accessing www.dioceseofscranton.orgor calling the St. Jude Parish office. The deadline is July 9. During the Week of Service, July 18 -21, the students will be decorating pillow cases for the pediatric unit at the Janet Weiss Children’s Hospital. Parishioners are invited to donate pillow cases in lighter solid shades in standard size. A box for the donations can be found at the doors of the annex. The students will present the pillow cases to the patients. Donations of bubbles and Play-Doh are also needed for play baskets they will be making.
Students in grades eight through twelve are invited on a road trip to Dutch Springs Aqua Park in Bethlehem on Wednesday, July 27. Dutch Springs is a water park with inflatables on the lake. Students must know how to swim. They will leave St. Jude’s at 8:30 a. m. and return at 6:30 pm. Students must bring a lunch and drinks or money to buy food at the concession stands. All students must complete all necessary paperwork which is due at the Parish Office on July 25. The cost is $34 which includes admission and bussing. The Scranton Diocesan Council of Catholic Women will conduct a Day of Reflection on Wednesday, August 3 at the Villa of Our Lady Retreat House, 245 Meadowside Road, Mount Pocono. The topic is “Jubilee Year of Mercy”. The retreat will begin at 8:30 a. m. and end at 2 p. m. A continental breakfast and luncheon will be served. The cost is $35. On picnic weekend, all Masses will be held at St. Mary’s in Dorrance. Saturday Masses on August 13 will be at 4 p. m., 5:30 p. m. , and 7 p. m. Sunday Masses will be at 7:30 a. m., 9 a. m., 10:30 a. m., noon, and 5 p. m.
Weekday Masses at St. Jude’s are Monday through Friday at 7 a. m. and Wednesday at 12:10 p. m. Weekday Masses at St. Mary’s are Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday at 8 a. m. Saturday Vigil Masses are 4 p. m. at St. Jude’s and 5:30 p. m. at St. Mary’s. Sunday Masses are 7:30 a. m., 9 a. m., 10:30 a. m. and noon at St. Jude’s and 9 a. m. at St. Mary’s.
