Local Students Selected For Junior Leadership ProgramsHELLER’S

Eight MMI Preparatory School incoming juniors were selected to participate in Junior Leadership programs for the 2016-17 school year.

Local residents Gabriella Kupsho, Caelyn McGran, and Caitlyn Kline will participate in the Junior Leadership Hazleton program. Angelica Alday will be a member of the Junior Leadership Wilkes-Barre class.

Junior Leadership is a leadership development and community awareness program for high school juniors that encourages and enables potential young leaders to develop their leadership skills while increasing their awareness of the various elements that form their community.

Junior Leadership offers students the opportunity to work with adult leaders in their community through several day-long seminars. The sessions each have a different focus and are held once a month for several months. The program gives students the opportunity to develop leadership, communication and team building skills. An integral part of student learning is the selection, organization and implementation of a community service project.

The program encourages students to recognize and develop the skills needed for leadership potential, provides opportunities for a diverse group of students to interact with each other and the community leaders and decision makers and acquaints students with community needs, resources and other aspects of the area.
