St. Mary’s Church Schedules Feast Of The Ascension Masses

St. Mary’s of Dorrance is a welcoming church. The pastor of St. Mary’s is Reverend Joseph Evanko, and Rev. Jeffrey Tudgay, Reverend Assistant Pastor. The weekend Mass schedule is Saturday at 5:30 p. m. and Sunday at 9 a. m.

Thursday, May 5 is the Feast of The Ascension of the Lord. This is a Holy Day of Obligation. Masses will be celebrated at St. Mary’s on: Wed, May 4 at 7 p. m. and Thurs, May 5 at 8 a. m.

Religious Education-The last religious education class for students (excluding second grade) is Sunday, May 1, providing all class work is completed. Second grade students and students needing to make up work will have class Sunday, May 8.

Registration forms can be found in the file holder in the vestibule of the church. Religious education is for all children in first through twelfth grade. Ninth through twelfth grade students fulfill this obligation by attending youth group and youth group sponsored activities.

Catechists and Aides are needed at St. Mary’s for the 2016-2017 school year. Please call Mrs. Heller if you can donate your time to teach our young Catholics or for more information.

First Holy Communion will be celebrated in our Church on Sunday, May 15 during 9:00 a. m. Mass. Practice will be held on Saturday, May 14 at 9 a. m. in the Church.

The Choir has been invited to sing for First Holy Communion. Practice will be held on Wednesday, May 4 at 7 p. m., immediately following the Vigil Mass for the Ascension.

Pennsylvania law requires employees and adult volunteers who work around children to obtain background checks. This includes our Bazaar volunteers. Many people already have these because of the new law. If you have clearances please send a copy to our parish office to keep on file. Applications are in the file folder in the vestibule. Knights Mass: The Knights will sit as a body the weekend of May 21 and 22. Pews will be reserved up front for all Knights.

The Community Outreach Team is auctioning off a hand-made afghan. Tickets are available after Mass. The winning ticket will be pulled on Mother’s Day, May 8 immediately after Mass.

The parish is having a Red Cross

Blood Drive on Sunday, May 22 from 8 a. m. to 1 p. m. To make an appointment sign up in front of the cry room, call the parish office, or 1-800-RED CROSS. One donation call help save three lives.

We are again participating in the Baby Bottle Collection for the Pro-Life Center in W-B. Bottles are at all doors. Please return bottles by May 1. Carnation Sale is Mother’s Day. The Pro-Life Center is always in need of new or very gently used baby (up to 12 months) and maternity clothes. They also need white Christening blankets. For more information 826-1819.

Fr. Joe will be celebrating his 25th anniversary of ordination to the Priesthood on Sunday, July 10, 2016 at 3 p. m. Due to the ongoing construction of St. Jude’s new church and no of air conditioning at St. Mary’s (needed at that time of year), the Mass of Thanksgiving for his vocation will be at Father Joe’s home parish in Hazleton (St. Joseph Church) followed by a reception at Genetti’s in Hazleton.
