Melanie Skrocki Crane, M. D., daughter of Jerry and Helene Skrocki, Mountaintop, was installed President of the Riverside County Medical Association at their Annual Awards Dinner Friday January 29, 2016.
Dr. Crane is a compassionate and empathetic physician who loves the art and science of medicine. She is an active advocate for patients and believes deeply in the power of organized medicine as a means to create sustainable, effective healthcare for her patients.
Dr. Crane grew up in Mountaintop and is a graduate of St. Jude’s School and Bishop Hoban High School. She received her medical degree from MCP-Hahnemann University School of Medicine in Philadelphia. She completed her Internal Medicine Residency at Lehigh Valley Hospital in Allentown, Pennsylvania, and is board certified in Internal Medicine.
After her training, Dr. Crane headed west to Riverside, California in 2004 and quickly became a partner at Riverside Medical Clinic (RMC), specializing in Internal Medicine. She has been active on RMC’s Utilization Management and Quality Management committees through the years and now sits as a board member for the RMC RCI-IV partnership.
Recently, she also joined Mission Hospice as Medical Director for the Inland Region. Advancing the community and medical education is a priority for Dr. Crane. She has volunteered as an attending physician for the UC Riverside Medical School student run medical clinic for the homeless.
Currently, she is a volunteer clinical professor of medicine for UCR Medical School /Riverside County Regional Medical Center Internal Medicine Residency Program and a clinical professor of medicine for Loma Linda University Medical Center’s School of Medicine. Her medical staff appointments include Riverside Community Hospital and Parkview Community Hospital.
Dr. Crane has been actively involved with Riverside County Medical Association since 2004, starting as the Young Physician Section delegate and working her way up to President-Elect this year. She has served on RCMA’s Finance and Credentialing Committees. For 10 years, she has been a delegate to the AMA representing the CMA’s Young Physician Section. Recently, she was appointed to the CALPAC board.
Dr. Crane is married to Stephen Crane and has two wonderful children, Marek, 6, and Julia, 4. When she is not busy with her family, work or RCMA she loves to explore gourmet meals and new wines with her husband, friends and family.
