Bernerd Charles Kizis, 51, Mountain Top, died Jan. 27, 2016, in Geisinger Medical Center surrounded by his family.
Born in Wilkes-Barre on March 22, 1964, he was the son of Jack and Barbara Kizis of Pittston.
Bernie was a graduate of Wyalusing Valley High School. After graduation, he joined the U. S. Navy and served on the USS Biddle. Upon returning home, he worked
at the Dallas State Correctional Institute in Dallas as a guard. He then joined the Pennsylvania State Police, where he retired in 2012.
Bernie was a member of the American Legion, Mountain Top and Lithuanian Citizens Club in Pittston.
Bernie was predeceased by his grandparents, Joseph and Helen Kizis, and just recently his uncle, Rich Kizis.
Besides his parents, Bernie is survived by his daughter, Jenna Kizis, Mountain Top; brothers, John Kizis, Exeter; Kenneth Kizis and wife, Bettelee, Pittston; Bob Kizis, Pittston; David Kizis and wife, Janice, Luzerne; Cary Kizis and wife, Candy, Sunbury; and Chris Bunting and wife Trisha, Larksville; sisters, Debbie and husband, Kenneth Werkheiser, Bear Creek; and Colleen and her husband, Bill Judy, Harrisburg; nieces, Kinsey Kizis and Alleesha Bunting; and nephews, Ken and Nick Werkheiser, Kevin Kizis and Brendon Scheib.
Kizis-Lokuta Funeral Home, Pittston, handled the arrangements.
