Christmas Activities At St. Mary’s Church

For information St. Mary’s of Dorrance is a welcoming church. The pastor of St. Mary’s is Reverend Joseph Evanko, and Rev. Jeffrey Tudgay, Reverend Assistant Pastor. The weekend Mass schedule is Saturday at 5:30 p. m. and Sunday at 9 a. m.

Christmas Ministry Schedule-Extraordinary Ministers, Lectors, and Altar Servers can sign up for Christmas Masses in the sacristy.

Religious Education & Student News -Gertrude Hawk candy and Pond Creek candle orders will be in the weekend of Dec. 12/13. The orders will be on the bar in the social hall. Please check your orders for accuracy ASAP.

Father Jeff will be scheduling Altar Server Classes in the near future for new servers and a refresher class for current servers. Please call the parish office to sign up for the new server class or for more information.

Confirmation Classes-Eighth grade has class, Dec 20 or 21. Seventh grade has class Dec 13 or14.Classes areheldinSt. Jude School on Sundays: 10:10 to 11:20 a. m. or Mondays: 6:30 to 7:40 p. m. Please attend on your scheduled day. For information call Pam at 474-6315 ext 228.

Christmas Eve Family Mass-Students are invited to participate in the Christmas Eve program before 4p.m. Mass. It’s not too late to sign up! For more information call Mrs. Heller 379-2647

Advent, which comes from the Latin word for “arrival” or “coming,” is a period of preparation for the birth of our Lord. Advent is a time of joyous anticipation, but also of penance and preparation for the great Christmas feast. Our Advent Penance Evening is Tuesday, December 22 from 6-7 p. m.

Church Decorating-Five Christmas Trees will be put up this year: four in the Church and one on the front porch. If you would like to donate a tree or trees in honor of, or in memory of a loved one please call the parish office. The Church will be decorated on Sunday, December 20 at 11 a. m. For those attending Mass -no need to go home -a light breakfast will be served in the social hall. All are invited to come and help, especially students in need of service hours. There are jobs for all ages and abilities.

Christmas Wafers-The Oplatki are available in the baskets in front of the cry room. Donations can be left in the basket. Oplatki, are thin wafers traditionally shared at holy dinner Christmas eve in Poland.

St. Jude’s 9th Annual Lessons & Carols Concert will be held on Sunday, December 20th at 4 p. m. in the Church. The concert tells the story of our salvation history in Christ and features our Music Ministry, guest instrumentalists and a light reception to follow in the school cafeteria. Please mark your calendars now and plan to be with us for this special afternoon of Scripture and song! Snow date is Sunday, December 27th at 4 p. m.

Advent by Candlelight: Experience your Advent journey with the women of St. Jude for an evening of fellowship, spiritual reflection, desserts and beautiful table settings on Friday, December 11 from 6:30 p. m. –8:00 p. m. in the St. Jude School Cafeteria. 2016 Offertory Envelopes-New address -new name-new phone number -not yet registered -young adult still listed with your parents? Please call the parish office with your updated information as soon as possible. The offertory boxes will be ready for pick up soon.

Angel Tree -Parishioners are invited to take a name off the Angel Tree to help a child in need from our area. There are two cards for each child; one for a toy wish and one for a clothing wish. Please mark the sheet on the clipboard in the correct column. Return all wrapped gifts with attached cards by Sunday, Dec 13.

Hat, Glove, and Scarf Collection-The parish is collecting hats, gloves, & scarves for the clients of Children’s Service Center, Franklin Street, Wilkes-Barre. The children are infant to teen so a variety of sizes are needed. Please do not wrap these items. Items are due by Dec 13.

Boy Scout Troop 300 invites the community to a Benefit Breakfast on Sunday, Dec 13 from 8-11 a. m. at Saint James Church in Hobbie. Cost is $6 per person. Pancakes, eggs, bacon, sausage, toast, and donuts will be served.

The Altar & Rosary Society is selling Christmas rolls. Pre-paid orders are due by December 13. Orders will be ready for pick-up Tuesday, December 22 after 12 noon in the rectory meeting room. call Susan 868-6983.
