Genevieve Smereski, 94, Dorrance and formerly Slocum for many years, died peacefully with her family by her side on Dec. 3, 2015 at Guardian Elder Care, Sheatown.
Born May 11, 1921 in Port Griffith she was a daughter of the late Anthony and Nellie Kasky Karvaski. She married Leon Smereski on October 18,1941and was a long-time resident of Slocum. She will always be remembered as a hard worker. As well as raising her family, she assisted her husband in the operation of the family business, Smereski’s Garage. Genevieve’s family and friends were very dear to her and she was always willing to help all of them in any way possible. She was also a talented cook and baker and enjoyed sewing and making quilts and blankets.
Her husband, Leon passed away on July 14, 1981 after nearly 40 years of marriage. She was also preceded in death by brothers, Anthony, Jack, Joe and Leon Karvaski and sisters, Ruth Kandrac and Verna Dmyterko.
Surviving are her daughters, Loretta Ceravolo and husband, Anthony, Toms River, NJ and Antionette Myers and husband, Timothy, with whom she resided for the past 15 years in Dorrance; grandchildren, Philip, Scott and Anthony Marinaccio and Lori Gratacos; six great-grandchildren; sisters, Wanda Stec, Nanticoke and Helen Leshinski, California; a brother, Fred Karvaski and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held from Davis-Dinelli Funeral Home.
Interment was in Stairville Cemetery, Dorrance Township.
