St. Mary’s Church Collecting Hats, Coats And Gloves

St. Mary’s of Dorrance is a welcoming church. The pastor of St. Mary’s is Reverend Joseph Evanko, and Rev. Jeffrey Tudgay, Reverend Assistant Pastor. The weekend Mass schedule is Saturday at 5:30 p. m. and Sunday at 9 a. m.

Father Jeff will be scheduling Altar Server Classes in the near future for new servers and a refresher class for current servers. Please call the parish office to sign up for the new server class or for more information..

Students are invited to participate in the Christmas Eve program before 4 p. m. Mass. To sign up please return the sheet in last week’s Family Envelope or call the parish office.

The Christmas Party for all preregistered children is next Sunday, December 6 at 1 p. m. in the social hall. Children will be served lunch and then have a visit from Santa. There will be time for photos at the end of the party.

In the event that Crestwood closes or delays school due to inclement weather daily Mass will be cancelled. On Sundays, families will receive a phone call if classes are cancelled.

Advent, which comes from the Latin word for “arrival” or “coming,” is a period of preparation for the birth of our Lord. Advent begins four Sundays before Christmas and is the start of the Christmas season, which lasts through the Baptism of Our Lord. Advent is a time of joyous anticipation, but also of penance and preparation for the great Christmas feast. Our Advent Penance Evening is Tuesday, Dec. 22 from 6-7 p. m.

Five Christmas Trees will be put up this year: four in the Church and one on the front porch. If you would like to donate a tree or trees in honor of, or in memory of a loved one please call the parish office. We will be decorating the Church on Sunday, December 20 at 11 a. m. For those attending Mass -no need to go home -a light breakfast will be served in the social hall. All are invited to come and help, especially students in need of service hours. Jobs for all ages and abilities. The more hands the lighter the load!

The oplatek are available in the baskets in front of the cry room. Donations can be left in the basket. Oplatek, are thin wafers traditionally shared Christmas eve in Poland.

Experience your Advent journey with the women of St. Jude for an evening of fellowship, spiritual reflection, desserts and beautiful table settings. Friday, December 11, 2015 from 6:30 p. m. –8:00 p. m. in St. Jude School Cafeteri. Terry Tokach, Founder, Mountain Yoga, will present the Advent reflection for our gathering RSVP to Theresa 570-239-0959 or Suzanne 578-3986.

Angel Tree-Parishioners are invited to take a name off the Angel Tree to help a child in need from our area. There are two cards for each child; one for a toy wish and one for a clothing wish. Be sure to mark the sheet on the clipboard in the correct column. Please return all wrapped gifts by Sunday, December 13.

Our parish is again collecting hats, gloves, and scarves for the clients of the Children’s Service Center on Franklin Street in Wilkes-Barre. The children are boys and girls age infant to teens so a variety of sizes are needed. Please do not wrap these items. Donations are needed by December 13.

St. Jude’s 9th Annual Lessons & Carols Concert will be held on Sunday, December 20th at 4 p. m. in the Church. The concert tells the story of our salvation history in Christ and features our Music Ministry, guest instrumentalists and a light reception to follow in the school cafeteria. Please mark your calendars now and plan to be with us for this special afternoon of Scripture and song! Snow date is Sunday, December 27th at 4:00 p. m.

The Altar & Rosary Society is selling Christmas rolls. Pre-paid orders are due by December 13. Orders will be ready for pick-up Tuesday, December 22 after 12 noon in the rectory meeting room. The profit from their fundraisers is used to pay for hosts, wine, linens, and other liturgical expenses. For more information please call Susan 868-6983.

Every Monday night during Advent we will hear confessions at Saint Jude at 7 p. m. Plan to come before the last Monday of Advent to avoid waiting a long time. Please note the Vigil Mass for the Solemnity of The Immaculate Conception will celebrated on Monday, December 7 at 7 p. m. with confessions to follow.

Confessions and Holy Hour Mondays during Advent at 7 p. m. This year our parish will have confessions each Monday during Advent on Dec. 7 after Vigil Mass, 14 and 21.
