Crestwood Comes Up Short In PIAA Field Hockey Semifinals

Crestwood came up one game short of playing in the PIAA Class 2A field hockey finals when the Lady Comets were upended by the Raiders of Twin Valley in the semifinals on November 17 at Emmanus High School. Previously undefeated, Crestwood had reached the state championship game for the past four years, ending the 2015 season with an impressive 19-1 record.

Crestwood’s 3-2 overtime loss to Twin Valley was a hard-fought battle. The Lady Comets opened the scoring in the first half to take a 2-0 lead. Ashleigh Thomas scored Crestwood’s first goal at 3:31 after taking a cross-field pass. Teammate Hunter Pitman added the Lady Comet’s second at 11:43.

Twin Valley responded in the second half with two unanswered goals. After an onslaught of shots, Twin Valley’s Kendra Jones found the back of the cage at 13:52 for the Raiders first goal. The tying goal in regulation was scored by Kalee Lepage at 18:24.

Lepage put the game away at 4:25 in the second overtime off a pass by Hannah Menge.

Marlee Dillon turned in an outstanding performance in the cage, blocking 10 shots.

The Raiders out shot the Lady Comets 15 to 5.

It was a disappointing loss for the Lady Comets but it did not diminish another brilliant season. Moratori was assisted by Elvetta Gemski, former head coach, who established the phenomenally successful program at Crestwood.
